Coronavirus Update

(Morristown, NJ)…In Region Asia Pacific, Hamburg Süd staff will return to the offices in Mainland China and Hong Kong as from March 2nd. Preventative measures are in place and staff will be working in shifts between home and the office until March 16th. All client services continue to be available, including counter services.

Vessel and terminal operations in the Greater China Area continue to operate normally. Customs houses, ocean terminal depots and all off-dock depots remain open. Empty pick up and laden return services are operating normally. We understand that productivity is gradually increasing as the majority of provinces in Mainland China return to work. We understand that factories are still working with limited capacity, and transport limitations are still being applied by some local governments as preventative measurements.

Yard congestion for reefer containers and high utilization of on-dock reefer capacity are still critical in Shanghai and Xingang. An increase in import reefer throughput into Ningbo terminal has also led to yard density to reach critical levels. In general, trucking capacity has increased and the number of daily units being processed is slowly increasing, but still significantly lower than normal throughput. In the interim period, we are working on temporary solutions, while ensuring to maintain the cold chain for all reefer containers. If customers elect to make a change of destination, we will waive the usual change of destination costs.

We will continue to provide updates in the event of any changes to the current situation. Should you have any concerns or doubts, please feel free to contact your local Hamburg Süd representative. Please visit this page for regular updates on our global measures regarding the Coronavirus.
