Yantian Port Operations - Yantian Port Operations Update

(Florham Park, NJ)…Given the uncertain situation of Yantian port, we wish to provide you with details about any delays or pauses your cargo or shipments may encounter and offer some alternatives for mitigation.

Vessels & Terminals

A few positive COVID-19 cases were reported in Yantian International Container Terminal on May 25th and additional positive cases continue to be report through today. Consequently, all operations in the western area of YICT are suspended until further notice. Operations in the eastern area, where mainline vessels mainly berth, continues but with low productivity.

Terminal yard density reached 96% and remains high with limited improvement. Disinfection and quarantine measures have been implemented by local authorities to prevent the continued spread of COVID-19. We expect 5 days of vessel delays in the coming week.

On May 27th, YICT updated their control measures for export laden containers as follows:

  • From 22:00 PM May 25th to 23:59 PM May 30th, export laden container gate-in will be suspended. Import laden container gate-out and empty container pick-up operations will remain as normal.
  • From 00:00 AM May 31st, export laden container gate-in will resume. In the meantime, from May 31st to Jun 6th, CY-open will be available only to vessels with ETA-3.

Import laden containers, which are primarily contained to the eastern area, continue to operate normally.

Empty Containers

Export empty pick-up in Yantian remains normal except for Greating Fortune Depot. We see 40GP & 40HC empty supply is negatively impacted due to vessel delays in Yantian port. Customers are encouraged to cross pick up at Chiwan. Import empty return at Yantian remains normal as per depot location of delivery order, except for Greating Fortune Depot.

Landside Service

Trucking service into YICT has been impacted by the heavy traffic congestion of terminal area and empty pick up is expected to be delayed by at least 8 hours. We expect the heavy congestion to continue after export laden gate-in resumes in YICT from May 31st.
