Customer Advisory - Low Water Level in Amazon River

Hamburg Süd wishes to advise our customers those records in the rules of the National Water Agency (ANA) indicate a reduction in the operational draft of ships that transit through the Amazon River at the main crossing points to the port of Manaus. This decrease in the depth of the bed of the river leads to a reduction in the cargo capacity of ships, with consequent economic and financial imbalance to the regular service of waterborne transport to/from Manaus.

To recover this balance and maintain regularity, Hamburg Süd will be introducing Low Water Additional surcharge (LWA BARG) effective 15th October 2022. This surcharge will be appliable to all containers from or into Port Manaus Brazil, based on booking date.

The surcharge levels are as follows:

Charge Code Cargo Type Origin Destination Container Size/Type Levels
LWA BARG Dry & Reefer World Manaus, Brazil 20' USD 250 per container
LWA BARG Dry & Reefer World Manaus, Brazil 40' (incl. HC) USD 500 per container
LWA BARG Dry & Reefer Manaus, Brazil World 20' USD 250 per container
LWA BARG Dry & Reefer Manaus, Brazil World 40' (incl. HC) USD 500 per container
