Stop Booking Manaus
Please be advised that Hamburg Süd continues to monitor the evolution of water levels on Amazonas region.
The latest data indicate a critical scenario, with a possible interruption of navigation of larger ships, such as those of Hamburg Süd, resulting in the consequent interruption of service operation to/from Manaus. Drought in the Amazon region has historically lasted approximately 12 weeks, from October to December.
We are currently analyzing alternatives and requesting aid from the competent authorities (Ministry of Infrastructure, ANTAQ, Port Authority) to find a solution, possibly using ships of another size, if available.
Faced with this situation, we took the difficult decision to temporarily suspend the acceptance of new bookings to/from Manaus.
For this reason, confirmed bookings whose cargo collection has not yet been carried out or the removal of empties has not been carried out, will be temporarily suspended while we individually analyze the possible contingency measures.
Hamburg Süd continues discussing, through the relevant entities, the issue of abrupt silting of Madeira River’s Bay, as well as monitoring the evolution of its water levels. In case of updates, you will be informed through a new advisory.
