How Hamburg Süd enabled a large Brazilian company to optimize its import flow of solar panels and electronics

The Customer

Our new customer is a large Brazilian company that has been offering innovative solutions in security, networks, communication and energy to the local and world market for more than 45 years.

The Challenge

The company was looking for a provider who would accept full container loads as well as less than container loads (LCL) on direct routes from Asia to Brazil, as required. In addition, it voiced a great need for advice regarding the complex customs and tax import regulations in the country. Uncomplicated handling was just as important to the company as noticeable cost reductions. To date, the company had worked with various forwarders. But now it was looking for a one-stop solution to handle all services.

The Solution

In intensive discussions with the potential new customer – which included a visit to the port of Itapoá – our Brazilian team determined what the company’s specific needs were. The team then came up with a tailor-made solution. To begin with, several smaller shipments were combined into one full container, initially from Shanghai and Ningbo to Itapoá. After the successful pilots, a further consolidation from Shenzhen to Itapoá was agreed upon.

The Result

Thanks to the trustful cooperation and good mutual understanding between the customer and Hamburg Süd’s team in Brazil, our customer now benefits from a continuous flow of its import goods into Brazil. But that’s not all: Thanks to our team’s precise knowledge of customs regulations and tax incentives in Brazil, our customer has also been able to enjoy significant savings on these expenses.
